The Attributes of God

The LORD is the Only God. He’s in Unity and Trinity

I trust that grace and peace are being multiplied to you during your isolation (2 Peter 1:2). We’re continuing our study on the attributes of God. May He be our Rock and our Refuge during this troublesome time.

1. The LORD is the only God.

Read Isaiah 43:10; 44:6–8; 45:6; 45:18; 46:8–9 and ask yourself…

  • What do these verses teach about the nature of God?

  • In light of this, how should we respond to Him?

Other religions are simply false. No other book in the world can testify to the nature of God. Why? Because the Bible is Word of God. How do we know this? Many ways, including the fulfillment of prophecy, divine miracles recorded, and its historical accuracy to name a few. It is clear that the LORD is the only God. Exodus 15:11 11 “Who is like You among the gods, O Lord? Who is like You, majestic in holiness, awesome in praises, working wonders?” Answer? No one!

And He is also one.

2. The LORD is in Unity.

The LORD is one in essence or being.1 Read Deut 6:4; James 2:19; 1 Co. 8:4-6; 1 Ti. 2:5-6.

There is nothing more fundamental to knowledge of God than the unity of God. He is one in His being. He is not 3 beings; He is one being.

Because the LORD is one in essence, our devotion to the LORD must be also.

Deuteronomy 6:13 13 “You shall fear only the Lord your God; and you shall worship Him and swear by His name.

May the LORD find us serving only Him, not our flesh or our own desires.

Even though He is one in essence, He does exist in three persons.

3. The LORD is a Trinity

The LORD exists in three persons.2

The Father is God: Read Matthew 6:30–32. Ask yourself, “Who knows what I need?”

The Son is God: After Jesus died on the cross for our sins and was raised from the dead, He reveals Himself to Thomas and tells him to examine His hands and side. Thomas replies, “My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28).

Jesus Christ, the Son, is God!

The Holy Spirit is God: The Spirit is omnipresent (everywhere present).

Psalm 139:7 7 Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? Answer: You can’t!

  • The Holy Spirit is everywhere.

  • But only God can be everywhere.

  • Therefore, the Holy Spirit is God.

Because there is one God who is exists in one essence in three persons, He alone deserves worship from His creatures. And we can sing together this certainty in these uncertain times…

Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!

Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;

Holy, Holy, Holy! Merciful and Mighty!

God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity!
